FOUNDATIONAL MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

The Foundational Mentorship Program supports visual artists working together in an informal, peer-learning framework, with experienced artists mentoring evolving artists. The pair’s direction is led by the mentee’s goals. Mentors are seasoned professionals who provide personalized support, training, advice, encouragement, and feedback on a regular basis. Mentees gain professional development, technical skills, and increased confidence. Artists at any career stage can benefit from working with a mentor and all participants can expect to enjoy revitalized art practices and enhanced community!

PROGRAM DETAILS:

The program runs from September 01 to June 30 each year

  • The program is absolutely free

  • Mentors receive $4,000 (paid in 5 instalments) for each mentee they support (max 2)

  • Mentees receive a $700 materials subsidy to cover materials, gallery/studio visits, etc

  • Participants may be eligible for travel subsidy

  • Mentorship pairs are required to spend a minimum of 7 hours/month working together

  • Mentees are required to dedicate significant additional time to their art practice and/or their goals during the mentorship

  • Attendance at 3 group meetings is mandatory (Orientation, Midterm, and Final)

  • Submit 3 reports: assist Mentee with their Proposal (due October 15); Midterm Report (due February 15); and Final Report (due June 30)

  • The review panel selects mentees from the applications received each year and matches them with appropriate mentors

  • Mentees may request a mentor or apply with a mentor, but may not necessarily be matched afterwards

  • Participants must be Saskatchewan residents and should not be current students

Digital or physical submissions in any other format than described here will not be accepted.

Questions about application requirements and about the details of your mentorship proposal may be directed to Programs Assistant, Joviel Buenavente workshops.sask@carfac.ca.

Additionally, you may send your application ahead of time for some feedback.
