CARFAC SASK is seeking a Programming and Outreach Director for a 35 hr/week permanent full-time position.
The successful candidate would be based out of Treaty 4 Territory in Regina or Treaty 6 Territory in Saskatoon for a combination of remote and in-office work. This position requires occasional field work, including some evenings, weekends, and travel.
This is a dynamic position that demands strong interpersonal, communication, group facilitation, and administration skills. The Programming and Outreach Director manages CARFAC’s various mentorship programs, as well as supplementary programming like workshops, panels, symposia, and other special offerings as required. The Programming and Outreach Director is also responsible for visioning and implementing innovative new programming that will support diverse Saskatchewan artists while upholding the organization’s mandate and strategic plan.
The ideal Programming & Outreach Director will possess demonstrated knowledge of the arts and arts practice in Saskatchewan and an understanding of broader art contexts, both nationally and internationally; expertise in program planning including building partnerships, budget management, grant writing, and communications; strong administrative skills; and the capacity to work as an independent leader within a team environment.
The successful applicant will work alongside the current staff and board to continue CARFAC SASK’s evolution as an organization that upholds decolonial, anti-racist, and affirming processes and practices for all.
Core duties include:
● Manage all mentorship programs (including the Foundational Mentorship, Visiting Mentor, Travelling Mentor, and Critical Art Writing Mentorship) and related budgets, contracts, and files;
● Coordinate workshops, artist talks, and other outreach as relevant to programming goals, including communications with artists, instructors, partners, and the public, and delivering programs on time and within budget;
● Facilitate group meetings and public events;
● Build relationships with arts organizations, partners, and community;
● Conduct ongoing community consultation, assessment, and planning;
● Develop new programming, within human resource and budget capacities;
● Write grants applications for funding to support new and current programming;
● Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and other CARFAC SASK staff as well as with mentors, program participants, workshop instructors, and the Board;
● Manage evaluative frameworks for CARFAC SASK programs and facilitate the collection of data for the purpose of program evaluation;
● Co-manage promotions and communications with other staff, including online and print (website, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Constant Contact, paid advertisements as budgeted, invitations, brochures, pamphlets);
● Coordinate professional documentation of all programs, exhibitions, and special events, as required;
● Prepare program reports, analysis, and summaries as required, including regular reports to the Executive Director on all program and outreach initiatives for the purposes of reporting to the Board of Directors and funders;
● Provide artistic vision and expertise to the Executive Director for purposes of core funding applications and planning annual global budgets;
● Prepare and adhere to program budgets and manage all aspects, including cost projection and payment release;
● Assist in policy development in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board;
● When relevant, participate in hiring and managing contractual staff, in consultation with the Executive Director;
● Attend board meetings as required;
● Maintain positive communications with the membership and public as related to programming, advisory services, and general inquiries;
● Arrange member appointments for Financial, Legal, and Advisory services, as required.
Key competencies include:
● Strong ability to work collaboratively with fellow Staff, Volunteers, and Board Members;
● Programming, management, and administration skills, including excellent oral and written communication;
● Excellent organizational, group facilitation, and interpersonal skills;
● Experience working or volunteering with non-profit organizations, artist-run-centres, galleries, and/or other arts related programming;
● Degree in fine arts, art history, arts administration, or equivalent experience;
● Demonstrated sensitivity and interest to work with individual/groups from diverse social, economic, political, and cultural backgrounds;
● Respect for diverse points of view and the ability to facilitate productive exchange;
● Office skills including Apple computers, MS Office products, Adobe Creative Suite, Squarespace, and web tools for group emailing, social media, and website updating;
● Knowledge of project budgeting and cost projection;
● Familiarity with CARFAC history, programs, and services, and issues such as copyright, exhibition rights, artist taxation, and funding.
● Valid Driver’s License is essential, and some travel is required.
Salary and Benefits
● Salary is based on a set scale of $42,000 to $48,000 per year.
● Employees earn 1.67 days of vacation per month (20 days per year) and 1 day of sick leave per month (12 days per year).
● After three months of service, employees have access to a benefits plan that includes comprehensive health, drug, vision, and dental coverage, including access to diverse mental and physical health supports (such as counselors and naturopaths). Employees also have the option to sign up for our employee pension plan.
● Employees are given paid days off on all Canadian stat holidays as well as Easter Monday, National Aboriginal Day, and the holiday season (December 28 to 31).
